Veitshöchheim - January 25, 2007 - Get the most out of Mac OS X: Core Mac Bootcamp in Germany, April 16-20, 2007
Big Nerd Ranch Europe today announces its Core Mac Bootcamp is coming back to the Big Nerd Ranch and for the first time to Europe. The intensive five-day class, scheduled for April 16-20, 2007 at the distraction-free setting of Kloster Eberbach near Frankfurt, Germany, is based on the popular book "Advanced Mac OS X Programming" written by Mark Dalrymple and Aaron Hillegass - originally titled "Core Mac OS X and Unix Programming" in its first edition.
The five days of intensive instruction on advanced Mac OS X programming are taught by Mark Dalrymple, who provides explanations of how to leverage the powerful underlying technologies of Mac OS X's Unix foundation to professional developers. Core Mac Bootcamp assumes that the student understands the first nine chapters of "Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X", by Aaron Hillegass, or have similar working experience.
Students save Euro 200 when signing up before March 5, 2007.
The bootcamp is an exhaustive examination of the key aspects of Mac OS X development necessary to producing master-level, well performing and reliable applications. Topics include, but are not limited to:
• An introduction to Mac OS X and its underlying Unix foundation
• A detailed look at GCC-specific extensions, 64-bit programming and Objective-C 2.0
• Multi-threading and multiprocessing for maximum performance
• A deeper understanding of the different flavors of memory to help hunting down memory leaks
• Using Subversion for version control
• Networking, including Bonjour and reading data from NetInfo and LDAP servers
• Master sampling, profiling, Shark, Saturn, and X-Ray for optimal performance tuning
• Using Distributed Objects for client-server communications
• kqueues with a simple unified model for signal handling
• Debugging with Gdb command-line, expanding the capabilities provided in Xcode
Instructor Mark Delrymple has been a Macintosh programmer since 1985, and a professional unix programmer since 1990. While at AOL he has contributed to the AOL 3.0 client and was chief architect of an internal publishing tool that interfaced with both the Mac AOL client and the AOL proprietary publishing infrastructure, all using C++. His deep knowledge of different unix platforms (Linux, HP, SGI, Digital Alpha, Solaris) and Mac OS X in particular makes him an extraordinary instructor for this high level class. Mark currently works at Google.
Commenting on the upcoming class, Mark said, "I'm a real believer in learning about a system as deeply as possible. Even if you only program in Cocoa, knowing how the world works underneath your feat can make debugging easier, and help your apps really perform."
